How to set up a travel blog – The first thing you need to do is come up with a name for your travel blog.
Get a notepad out or a whiteboard and write down every name idea that comes into your head – even if you think it’s not a great name, you need to get all the rubbish ideas out the way before you get to the one you’re happy with.
Try and incorporate either your own name or the types of travel niche you’re going for into the name. Also, try and pick a unique name that has not already been used – perform a few quick searches into Google, Facebook and Instagram to check it has not been used already.
Remember: you will want to use the same name for your website/blog as you will for your social media pages as you will want to interlink all of them to help draw in a larger audience.
Once you’re happy with the name you’ve chosen for your travel website/blog you will need to set up your domain name and choose who you are going to use to host your website/blog.
Your domain name is your website address that people will search to find you, you will need to purchase you own unique domain name.
I used www.siteground.co.uk to purchase my domain name. Prices start at £11.95 a year (my own domain name ‘www.steontour.com’ cost this amount).
Once you’ve purchased your domain you will need a host. A hosting provider allocates space on a web server for a website to store its files. Every website you’ve ever visited is hosted on a server.
For my hosting I also used: www.siteground.co.uk
Not only are they great at hosting but you as I’ve already mentioned you can get your domain from here too. There are loads of options when it comes to hosting/domains and everyone will have their own preferences but they’re all pretty similar.
Hosting your website on www.siteground.com will cost you £11.99 per month or you can pay a one off yearly fee of £143.88.
Now you’ve chosen your name, got a website domain, and a website host, you will need WordPress. WordPress is a website builder and content management system. It is software that anyone can use to build any kind of website they desire.
If you have set up your hosting through www.siteground.com like me, you will be able to use their helpful one click WordPress installations so that you can get up and running quickly.
You will choose a unique name for your travel blog, once you’ve done that using www.siteground.com you can do everything to get you up and running quick and easily in one place:
Buy a domain > Select hosting package > Click install WordPress
Then you’re ready to go in and start building your travel blog using WordPress.
